I like the suggestions on the eyes and the eyebrows. Somebody show these to Sherri Lynn Cook.

It's a tricky thing. I also have an image of the "Perfect Lion-O" in my head, but that would also include a unique body sculpt. Not to make excuses for the 4H sculpt or anything, but it's definitely not supposed to be a cartoon-accurate figure. It's Thundercats meets MOTU, so there's room for interpretation. The digital mockup there looks really good to me, but I wonder if it's even possible to get those eyebrows like that in production.

Am I misremembering? I thought the gauntlet was smooth metal? Why the furry gauntlet?

Not to mention the eyes. Lots of intricate detail is easy to photoshop on a blown up photo but not so easy to duplicate on a tiny head. Maybe show them to Sherri, Ed and see what she thinks?

Not saying I dislike it at all. I just remember it being metal.

The original toy had a fur claw shield. Of course, it was also neon red.

If Bandai could get the eyes right, so can mattel imo.

I don't remember the Claw Shield ever being metal. I think it might have been metal in the new cartoon, but in the classic, I always remember it being furry. It probably never looked that way on the cartoon, because it was simplified and smoothed for animation, but on the toy and in most artistic representations, it was furry.

Just ordered the full series on DVD to combat that memory problem.

That’s a really good point! I’m hoping for the best here, ‘cuz if Bandai could do it, well...

And don’t get me wrong, I was glad to get Bandai’s renderings, but this Is what I want to recreate!

Man, I love Ed McGuinness art. Ever since I first saw that picture, in Wizard magazine I think, I wanted toys to match.

Just watched season 1. The Claw shield is definitely smooth gold metal. NOT furry.
