The story of Mythic Legions and the high-fantasy Realm of Mythoss began as action figures.Instead a following a more traditional path of starting the narrative with a book, movie, televison show, comic, or other form of media, when Four Horsemen Studios had a story to tell, they did so by doing what they do best - they made toys.
In the early days of Mythic Legions, the story of the line and it's characters were told via the small "bios" that were included on the sides of each figure's package, as well as via the various waves that were released and the overall themes they included.
Despite the lack of a traditional, liner narrative, Mythic Legions had a story from the very start - a story which is finally being told in full via Four Horsemen Studios' recent publishing projects.
Rise of the Dark Four, Volume One
The story of Mythic Legions begins in "Rise of the Dark Four: Volume One." This deluxe, hardcover coffee table-style book features over 400 pages of stunning images and story text. This is a full novel-length story of Mythic Legions coupled with wonderful paintings from Nate Baertsch and Tom Tolman, illustrations from David Williams, and photography from Trevor Williams / One:Six Shooter. In addition to many of the images previously seen on Mythic Legions packages and promotions, this volumes features approx. 50 brand-new images that were created specifically for this book. The Realm of Mythoss has known peace for an age. The heroic Legions of Light have kept the evil forces at bay since their masters, the Dark Four, were banished during the First Age of the Realm. The protections they put in place have begun to weaken, and now the shadows of the past are threatening to rise once again.
In the kingdom of Xylernia, a new queen is crowned and an evil relic possessing horrible power is stolen. Meanwhile, the King of Leandorr leads his army to war and a barbarian who has turned his back on the Realm finds himself drawn back to a fight he left behind long ago. These events set off a chain reaction that will see alliances tested, secrets revealed, and the safety of an entire world put at risk as the Legions of Dark prepare for the Rise of the Dark Four.

The First 10 Years
The first Mythic Legions book released was not actually a story-driven novel, but rather a comprehensive catalog of the first decade of releases in the Mythic Legions line. Titled, "Mythic Legions: The First 10 Years", the bookwas offered for preorder in early 2025 and shipped to customers a little over a year later.
Weighing in at just about 370 pages, "The First 10 Years" includes a page for every figure offered under the Mythic Legions banner from the first Kickstarter-backed wave of 2015 to the "Ashes of Agbendor" wave, as well as all the special figures that were available during that span. Each figure received a page with photos and details on that toy, plus the character's bio. While this book was not intended as a "lore volume", the inclusion of all these character bios makes "The First 10 Years" a great repository for this story information.
Beyond the figure details, "The First 10 Years" included a bit of information on each wave in the line that had been released, as well as other articles on various topics relevant to Mythic Legions and short write-ups from the creators of Mythic Legions - the owners and founders of Four Horsemen Studios.
