One of the first “ogre-scale” figures created for the Mythic Legions line, the brutal Kkurzog has been a massive presence in the Realm of Mythoss, and at many of Four Horsemen Studios’ live events, since he was introduced during the “Siege at Bjorngar” wave. In this Figure in Focus article, we will take a closer look at this character and the lore that has been written for him, as well as the figures that have been made and the life-size statue that those figures inspired!
Siege at Bjorngar
Released in early December, 2018, the Siege at Bjorngar wave introduced a brand-new scale into the Mythic Legions line – ogre-scale.
Significantly larger than our standard “1.0” figures, but not quite as large as the trolls, ogre-scale allowed us to create figures that had similar build dynamics and the “pop-and-swap” capabilities found on most of our figures, but at a size that really made them stand out as larger characters. While our standard, 1.0 figures measure approximately 7” tall, ogre-scale reaches to around 9” tall each!
The Siege at Bjorngar wave included 3 ogre-scale figures – the heroic Bolthor the Tower, an Ogre Legion Builder, and the focus of this article - Kkurzog. Here is the bio that was included on the package for this figure.
With a name that strikes dread and fear throughout Mythoss, Kkurzog stands out for his vicious brutality even in a legion famous for its brutal nature. Gargantuan ancestors of Orcs and Goblins, Ogres are savage powerhouses that bolster the ranks of the warriors of Arethyr. Standing at nearly nine feet tall and weighing three times as much as their Orc cousins, Ogres do much of the heavy lifting for their legion. Responsible for transporting and operating battering rams, catapults and other large scale armaments, the burden of their responsibly is exceeded only by their sheer savagery. Capable of speaking both Orkish and some of the more civilized tongues, Kkurzog acts as both an interpreter and general to the Orc warriors. As the link between his kin and the Legion’s leadership, not only is Kkurzog an essential leader, he is also a cruel master capable of wielding his own people as a weapon of war.
One interesting side note on ogre-scale figures – while the three mentioned above were released as part of the Siege at Bjorngar wave in 2018, a number of other ogre-scale figures were also sculpted at this same time. Argemedes (Wasteland wave), Decebalus (Illythia wave), Half Giant Legion Builder (Deluxe Legion Builders wave), Azahazzar (Poxxus wave), and Regarionn (Rising Sons wave) were all created at this time, yet some of these ogre-scale figures and parts would not be released for many years after Siege at Bjorngar. A Life Size Ogre
If you attended LegionsCon 2022, or even if you were following the fun from home and checking out the pictures that fellow fans were sharing, you undoubtedly saw the BIGGEST surprise we unveiled at that event – a “life size” statue of Kkurzog that dominated the lobby of the venue hotel!
The rise in size and popularity of the annual LegionsCon event was a perfect excuse to revisit a project we had started years earlier when we had created a life-size bust of Kkurzog. That bust had made a huge impression at the shows we took him to, but we had always wanted to go bigger and see if we could make an actual full, life-size ogre.
With the 2022 LegionsCon set to become a 2-day stand-alone show for the first time, we knew we wanted to make a huge impact, and greeting fans with this monster was sure to help make that impact! We gathered our team and began to plan how we would pull this project off.

Legacies of Mythoss
Whenever we would bring the life-size Kkurzog out to events, we would inevitably get asked if we were selling a figure of that ogre. Unfortunately, the Siege at Bjorngar wave had long since sold out. This made Kkurzog a perfect candidate for our Legacies of Mythoss line of figures.
Legacies of Mythoss is the name of a sub-line of Mythic Legions that “features updated versions of core characters from the Realm of Mythoss presented in their iconic, original looks.” Rather than simply reissuing older figures of popular characters, Legacies of Mythoss allows us to improve on those first releases while giving new fans the chance to secure core characters from our story for their collections.
The Legacies release of Kkurzog started with a brand-new base body for ogre-scale. At this time we begun to work on Legaciesof Mythoss, we had also begun to introduce our “3.0 bodies” for some newer figures, adding additional articulation points like double-jointed arms and legs, butterfly shoulders, bicep swivels, waist cuts, and boot cuts. Eric Treadaway had started to work on a new ogre body that incorporated many of these new articulation points, and the Legacies Kkurzog became the perfect place to get them added (the new Kkurzog includes all the ones mentioned except for double-jointed elbows).
In addition to the new base body and significant range-of-motion additions, the Legacies Kkurzog would also come with some armor and accessories not found in the first release, including a new helmet, chest armor, and shoulder pauldrons, as well as a wicked new sword and a massive shield. Both of those new weapons started as designs that Nate Baertsch did years ago at Eric’s request to create some additional options for ogre-scale. Some of the items that Nate designed would become the “Noble Baertsch” add-on set, while others remained waiting to be used in future releases. Nate’s design sheets for those ogre weapons, armor, and heads can be seen in the “Mythic Legions: The First 10 Years” book.
Below is the expanded bio for Kkurzog that appears on his Legacies package, followed by some images of the new Legacies of Mythoss Kkurzog.
A viciously brutal warrior, the ogre named Kkurzog rose to recognition in the Legions of Arethyr alongside the orc general, Urzokk. Together this pair cut a path through their enemies, creating a bloody legacy that would ensure that their names would strike fear and dread throughout all of Mythoss.
Deeply intelligent and with an ability to speak both Orkish and some of the more civilized tongues, Kkurzog often acts as a link between the leadership of the Legions of Arethyr and the Orc warriors that make up the bulk of its army.
Kkurzog was at the Feint of Castle Silverhorn, and his actions on that battlefield helped ensure that the Aetherblade sword could be reclaimed by Gorgo Aetherblade. The ogre was rewarded for this with a battalion of his own soldiers to command, and he led them to the gates of the Castle of Four Sides during the final battle of the Second Great War. Donning battle armor and wielding a wicked sword, Kkurzog’s forces pressed forward as they tried to break down the Castle’s defenses and defeat the mighty warrior named Magnus who stood in their way.
Legions Lore
Kkurzog is an important part of Mythic Legions. He was one of the first ogre-scale figures in the line. He was the first life-size statue we made. He is the first ogre in the Legacies line. In addition to all these “firsts”, he also appears in the Mythic Legions book, “The Rise of the Dark Four, Volume One.” In fact, some of the things mentioned in that expanded bio above directly reference events from that book and its planned sequel. Published for the first time ever below is Chapter 15 of the “Rise of the Dark Four, Volume One” book, along with the visual layout of that chapter’s pages.
Chapter 15 – The Gathering Darkness
Xylernia, outside the grounds of Castle Silverhorn
Night began to fall across Xylernia and the shadows began creeping out from the dense expanse of trees that surrounded Castle Silverhorn. Silverhorn Sentries stood at attention along the castle walls, forming a nearly impenetrable shield around the mighty structure. Yet, the mirth of the day’s celebration had eased their usual vigilance. The forces of darkness expected this to happen, just as they knew that the normally impenetrable defenses of the great maze would be pulled back to accommodate the flow of invited guests for the coronation of the new Fae queen. This was why they chose this time to launch their attack.
“General Urzokk, when do we strike?” the ogre known as Kkurzog asked.
His face streaked with white warpaint, the orc commander stared silently at the tall castle walls before him. Normally the forest surrounding the castle would be teeming with guards hidden by the natural camouflage of the wilds, but they had all been pulled into the castle grounds to provide protection and to enjoy the momentous day for Xylona’s Flock. These relaxed defenses meant that the army from the Legion of Arethyr was able to quietly assemble outside of Castle Silverhorn, hidden by the darkness of the encroaching night.
“Soon,” the orc replied. “Right now they are at their strongest. Let them break apart and get drunk on their good cheer. Then they will be caught unaware, and we will cut them down.”
Urzokk looked behind him at the gathered orcs and goblins. Normally he would be leading a force of the most savage and battle-hungry orcs in Arethyr’s army—the terrible Urkku, but today was different. This mission required more than brute force and savage bloodletting, so Urzokk had left his Urkku in Arethorn. Instead he now led a different force to the steps of Castle Silverhorn.
The orc commander had handpicked every member of his strike force, bringing only the most cunning warriors with him on this mission. The ranks of Arethyr’s army gathered in the darkness were quiet and patient, traits that orcs, goblins, and ogres are not generally known for having. This is why Urzokk had selected this force himself. He petitioned Gorgo Aetherblade for this honor personally, and the warmonger had granted his request.
“They are preparing to gather for the feast now,” said a goblin who seemed to materialize from the shadows, his silent approach unnoticed until he spoke.
“Knubnik,” the orc commander said, addressing the goblin assassin. “Were you seen?”
“Never,” the goblin croaked, offended by the suggestion that anyone would have seen him skulking about.
Urzokk nodded and turned back to address the ogre.
“Tell the others to stand ready, and let the summoner know that it is almost time to open the door for Gorgo.”
Inside Castle Silverhorn, the gathered heroes laughed and celebrated, unaware of the
threat that had assembled just outside their door.
