Exploring our work on The Worst ULTIMATES! line from Super7

Horsemen for Hire: The Worst

Over the past few years, there is no company Four Horsemen Studios has worked closer with than Super7. We have helped bring a number of the company’s popular ULTIMATES! line of figures to life, including releases from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Thundercats, Silverhawks, Disney, Conan and more. We love working on these licensed products and have enjoyed partnering with Super7, so when they came to us to discuss a new line of ULTIMATES! from the company’s in-house IP, The Worst, we were thrilled for the possibilities! In this “Horsemen for Hire” article, we will look at the first few releases from this new line!

The First of The Worst

We obviously love seeing companies explore original IPs in toy form, and our own in-house Mythic Legions line has proven that there is an appetite with collectors and toy fans for original ideas that don’t tie into already existing media properties. Super7 has been creating characters from their own IP called “The Worst”, which is “Super7's own gang of villainous vile vermin”, for a few years, but up until now those releases have all been part of their ReAction line. When they contacted us saying they wanted to translate a few of those characters into ULTIMATES!, we were all in! The first set of the Worst ULTIMATES! includes Batula and Captain Deadstar.

As you can probably imagine after seeing these photos, these were FUN characters to work with! Batlua comes with a variant head with sunglass and a pair of interchangeable hands giving a pretty rude expression. So you can create a Dracula-like vampire bat wearing shades and chucking the bird. How fun is that!?

Next you have the undead pirate Captain Deadstar, which comes with some of the best accessories ever – a flaming sword, laser gun, a bottle of rum, and a chicken leg (plus a number of other accessories). What is a skeleton doing with a chicken leg? We don’t know, but we know it is awesome!

This first wave of The Worse ULTIMATES! was introduced in mid 2021, but the company was just getting started. There were many other unique designs to explore from this gang in subsequent releases!

A Skeleton and a Robot

The second wave of The Worst ULTIMATES! was unveiled on February 14, 2022 – because nothing says “Valentines Day” like an Undead Warlord and a Robotic Harbinger of Doom!

The Undead Warlord of Doom, Black Falcon, led off this second wave of The Worst ULTIMATES! Like in previous waves, the figure came with alternate head sculptures and a variety of weapons – including some unusual choices. He has a sword, a shield, a spear, and an amulet of some kind – but this undead warrior also came with a thermos and a bagged lunch. Hey, even warlords need to eat!

The second figure in this wave is that aforementioned Robotic Harbinger of Doom – Robot Reaper! This mechanized bringer of digital death comes with a black robe and scythe, as you would expect any “reaper” to have, but he also includes a digital hourglass, floppy disk, and a portable game system.
